Farmers Markets
It’s a Matter of Taste!
Support Locals
Locally grown fruits and vegetables are more delicious and healthy than those that traveled many miles to reach us here in Williamsburg County and buying them helps to support the local farmers and producers!
To get locally grown fresh, healthy, tasty vegetables and fruits, visit one of the four local community-based Farmers Markets in Williamsburg County! You can find fresh fruits, vegetables, and some unusual personally made items like lye soap, jewelry, etc. as well as getting to meet and talk with the farmers at the markets.
Take Part
Ms. Rush and her staff are seeking farmers, producers and crafters to take part; there is no cost to participate.

Farmers Market Promotion Program
Williamsburg County was awarded a $99,959 grant from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) for the Farmers Market Promotion Program (FMPP).
The goals of the FMPP grant is to increase domestic consumption of, and access to, locally and regionally produced agriculture products, and to develop new market opportunities for farm and ranch operations serving local markets by developing, improving, expanding, and providing outreach, training, and technical assistance to, or assisting in the development, improvement, and expansion of, domestic farmers markets, roadside stands, community-supported agriculture programs, Agritourism activities, and other direct producer-to-consumer market opportunities.
Grant Cycle
This is a two-year grant cycle that began October 1, 2015 and ends September 30, 2017. Plans are to continue the markets beyond the grant cycle. The office is located at the Williamsburg Enterprise Community Commission (WECC) at 2104 Thurgood Marshall Highway in Kingstree.
This Williamsburg County project established a mobile Farmers Market, promotes Agritourism and expands Agribusiness in the County through direct producer-to consumer marketing relationships.
One major goal of the project is providing a venue for local farmers and producers to come together to offer a variety of fresh produce and related products directly to the consumer and provides an environment supportive of healthy eating.
Project Objectives
The objectives of the project are
- To establish linkages with existing vendors and farmers to formalize their participation in the mobile Farmers Market
- To increase community education and direct participation in the local producer-to-consumer mobile Farmers Market
- To develop a brochure identifying existing Agritourism sites in Williamsburg County
- To develop an Agribusiness network to expand and enhance local and regional food distribution and generally to promote food industry growth in Williamsburg County
Workshops & Education
Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) Workshops and technical assistance will be offered to farmers and other producers to support and strengthen the development of Agribusiness in the county.
Furthermore, the project will focus on Agritourism by developing, enhancing, and cataloging farm educational and recreational tourist destinations in Williamsburg County.
Reaching Children
A major component of increasing community education relative to healthy eating practices will be a special emphasis of reaching the children and exposing them to eating more fresh fruits and vegetables.
Childcare centers will be contacted to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables from the local farmers and producers and the centers will be encouraged and assisted in planting gardens.
