Last week, we announced the release of our new “I AM Williamsburg” t-shirts. This launch marks the beginning of what we hope will be a continual display of Williamsburg County pride throughout the county and beyond. When we posted the photos of some of our models wearing the shirts, our Director wrote a caption detailing his hopes for the “I AM” message, and we thought it deserved a place here as well. Read it below.

“Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me,” was a popular phrase during my childhood. Although it was frequently quoted, this statement is nowhere near truthfulness. In fact, words DO hurt! And no words are more destructive than the negative things we say about OURSELVES. We want to end the Negative Self-Talk regarding Williamsburg County and encourage the use of Positive Affirmations. We will focus on our POTENTIAL, not our PROBLEMS. We will no longer refer to ourselves as a STRUGGLING County, but a STRIVING County! The “I AM” message on these shirts exudes the greatness of all the individuals wearing them. I challenge everyone who has a stake in Williamsburg County: residents, native transplants, business owners, youth, and seasoned individuals, to take personal accountability in making our County GREAT!
