The Williamsburg Brand

From the Director's Desk

The Swoosh. The Golden Arches. The Bullseye. Red Bottom Shoes.

These images immediately identify the companies they stand for and conjure perceptions of product worth and quality. In marketing, this concept is referred to as “branding.”

It began centuries ago with cattle ranchers and farmers burning letters or symbols onto the hide of livestock in order to differentiate their animals from neighboring herds. The evolution of branding may have changed what gets the symbol, but the concept remains the same. Branding is all about differentiation: standing out in a crowded environment.

Economic developers market their perspective geographical assignments to attract businesses and industries. Infrastructure, workforce, education and quality of life are just a few things companies consider while shopping for a new location. We do our best to accentuate the qualities of our locale in order to stand out in a highly competitive sector.

The Williamsburg County Development Board recently conducted a rebranding of our department. Marketing Director D’Asia Green created our new logo, which features the geographical silhouette of Williamsburg County in the design. We have also highlighted the letters “I,” “A” and “M” in Williamsburg to create an interpersonal encryption: I AM Williamsburg!

We are Williamsburg.

Every citizen and every county employee helps to establish the image for which we are known. Take that personally, and leave a mark that helps us stand out with businesses and industries that are seeking new markets and territory. Together, we will burn the Williamsburg Brand into the minds of prospects everywhere and establish an easily identifiable symbol of quality and worth like never before.
